Kindergarten printable no-prep literacy activities that will reinforce letter formation and recognition, or sight words. Use these for emergency sub plans, easy planning, or back-up centers.
I have reflected on the difference between Play-Based and Paper Centers in a blog post. I am a proponent of hands-on and play-based learning. It is so important for students to explore and learn at their own pace.
I do like to include some paper-pencil activity choices in my planning though. There are students who love to complete them, and I think that having different ways to practice using a pencil is important.
There are also times when you need something easy to plan when a substitute teacher is coming, you need a calming activity, or to have a back-up in case a different center is just not working out.
For those reasons, I came up with these 2 spinner activities that are great for working on literacy skills:
Letter Activities
These letter activity pages are perfect for working on letter recognition and letter formations. I like to use a paperclip and pencil as a spinner, but you can also get plastic arrows from Amazon (affiliate link).
No Prep – Print and Go
I made these activities so they need as little prep as possible. Once you pick which letter set you want to use, you can just print the activity you want.
I’ve also provided colour versions of the activity if you would like to laminate and reuse them. I like giving both options so that you can choose the one that you like.
Differentiate
This activity also comes with a lot of options so that you can pick the one that best suits the needs of your students. I included a spin and trace, as well as a spin and cover version.
There are also 2 options for the number of letters per page. One version has spinners with 5/6 letters, the other 3/2 letters per page. That way, you can easily differentiate the activity to meet the needs of your students.
Having these options available will ensure that you are able to provide students with what works best for them.

Sight Word Spin
These pages are great for working on sight words. If your students have mastered letter formations, and are ready to work on words- these pages are a fun way to work on that.
No Prep – Print and Go
Like the letter pages, the sight word pages are ready to go- just print the page you need and your students can start practicing.
You can do them throughout the school year to work on different sets of sight words, great for review!
Make it your own
It is hard to include all the sight words that educators use in one resource- there are so many! I chose to include 40 sight words from the Dolch Pre-Prier list.
If those sight words do not meet all your needs, I included a page with a blank spinner. All you have to do is write your own sight words on it before photocopying!
