Doing an Alphabet Countdown was my favourite way to end the school year. Find out how I easily planned 26 days of fun in my kindergarten classroom.
Last year was the first time that I did an Alphabet Countdown for the end of the school year. It was the best thing I have ever done and made our last month of school incredibly fun and exciting. I recorded a podcast episode explaining exactly what I did. Have a listen to learn more about our end of the year celebration:
67- Alphabet Countdown – Creative Kindergarten
I came up with some activities to do during our countdown, and each student completed their own alphabet book. For this blog post, I have added a freebie for you- a calendar that you can send home to families or use for planning in your classroom.
Easy Prep Alphabet Activities
We did a different letter activity every day of our countdown, and had so much fun reviewing letter sounds in the process.
Each of the activities is easy to prep, so you can just plan it and move on. At the end of the year, the last thing I want to be doing is planning and prepping for hours.
All of these activities are included in this Easy-Prep Alphabet Countdown Activities pack:
Alphabet Countdown Book
On top of having a letter activity that was easy to prep every day, my students completed a page of their alphabet book every day. They drew a picture of something that begins with that letter, and traces the letter.
Once the books are made, you only have to put them out again. That is center or activity that you do not have to plan every day- it’s just ready!
I was worried that my students would get bored of doing the book- but they were so excited to complete the page every day! They would discuss what they wanted to draw, and sometimes drew more than one thing.
This book can be found here:
Digital Math and Literacy Review
Try a digital Alphabet Countdown to review math and literacy skills for the last 26 days of school. You can use this no-prep slide deck for in-person or virtual learning.
Each of the slides has a different concept that you can review with your students. Everything is included on the slide so that you don’t have to do anything – just read it!

Alphabet Countdown Calendar
If you want to engage families with this fun learning, or use a calendar to help you plan your countdown fun- I have a FREEBIE for you!
You can download it in my Resource Library! You can also find a calendar and letter I sent home last year to families to explain the countdown to them.
