We have been gearing up for the holidays in the classroom, and we have started planning out all our holiday crafts and centers. I can’t wait to show you what we are working on, but for now, here are some other centers we have been doing:
Fine Motor Station
This linking station was perfect for working on math skills, as well as fine motor development. Students picked a card, then attached the correct number of links.
This next center was great for working on fine motor skills by having students place pompoms on the lines using tweezers. They had a lot of fun using the Christmas-coloured pompoms, and you could easily match them to whatever theme you are doing! You can get them both in my Fine Motor Skills Activity pack:
Line of Symmetry Provocation
Since we have started working on making symmetrical images, we have been practicing by using different manipulatives and a line of symmetry. This provocation was easy to set up: I placed painter’s tape on the table in front of each chair. Students used pattern blocks to make their own images along the line of symmetry.
We set up our new salt trays this week, and I had a lot of fun deciding what to put into them (you can see what I did for our Fall Salt Trays by looking back at this post). This time around I made three different kinds. This one has salt mixed with hot chocolate mix, with crushed mints in it!
This next one has blue sprinkles, with some small white balls added to it.
This last one is my favourite, and it has just some plain salt in it with some small tree sprinkles. Our students used some plastic candy canes to write sight words in the salt. The snowflake sight words are from my Snowflake Sight Word Activities pack that you can get here:
Build a Den STEM Challenge
We challenged our students to build a den for the bears using snap cubes. They had to make it big enough to fit a bear in, draw a picture of it, and count how many cubes they used. They loved making different dens, and it was great to watch the different structures they built.
If you would like to do this activity, I have added it to my Resource Library as a free download!
