The last week of school before the winter break is a tough one. Students are excited about the holidays, there is still lots left to do and we still need to teach! I wanted to make a literacy center that would fun for students, educational and something they could work on independently. This literacy center fits perfectly!
The download contain 3 different color work mats that you can choose from, that have a Christmas tree on them. There are 40 sight word ornaments and lights included, but there is also a PowerPoint file that allows you to add your own sight words to them so that you can make your own. I laminated the ornaments and work mats so that this center will last me for years to come.
Students begin by decorating their tree with the ornaments and lights. Then they can use a whiteboard marker to write the sight words they used in the space provided. This is a great way to practice sight words recognition and spelling.
This black and white version is also included if you would prefer. Students can cut out the ornaments and lights that they would like to use on their tree and glue them. Then they can color their tree and decorations!
Once they are done with the decorations, students can write the sight words that they used. This not only works on sight words, it also helps with scissor skills!
If you would like to use this activity in your classroom, it is available on its own or in a bundle with other sight word building activities:
