I know a lot of schools are now out for the summer, but where I am we still have 3 more weeks! It’s been hard seeing everyone on their summer breaks, but we have been keeping it fun in our classroom so it has not been too bad. Here are some of the fun activities we did this past week:
Pattern Block Butterflies
Our students had such a great time with the Pattern Block Flowers line of symmetry activity, that we knew we had to pull out the butterfly one.
I love how these task cards challenge our students to translate the design onto the work mats, then create the other side of the butterfly along the line of symmetry. It is challenging, but our students love seeing the results once they figure it out!
If this is something you would like to try with your students, you can get it in my store. It is available on its own, or you can get it with the flower pack for a discount!
Can you fill the shape?
We set up this provocation at our fine motor center, and it challenged our students to fill up the shapes using the pattern blocks. This is a task that they really had to persevere at, and it took them a long time to do it. I love it when our centers make our students think about what they are doing!
Cuisenaire Rods Invitation to Create
We added some Cuisenaire Rods to our loose parts center. Our students were excited to use them to create awesome images. I printed out these stock photos for them to work on, to give them some inspiration.
I love how centers like these let students use their imagination, and works on their problem-solving skills.
Geo-Board Structures
This was another fun and challenging activity for our kindergarten students. They used to geo-boards to re-create the famous structures.
I love how they had to think of the different design elements of the buildings, and recreate them in such a simple way. I was blown away by how they were able to do that, and they were way better at it than I was!
