While learning the sight word blue- we decided to let our students create their own shade of blue, name it and describe it. I didn’t know how interested the students would be to create their own colour, but it turns out they were really excited to do it!
We started off by just giving them some blue paint, and they got to add and mix whatever colour they wanted until they found a shade they liked. Once they had the shade, I gave them a small piece of card stock that they painted. Once it was dry, I glued it to a sheet of paper and I had them name their shade and describe it the best they could.
The students came up with some great, creative names (storm, shark blue, water, shell) and they look fantastic!
