I love looking back on our week in kindergarten and remembering all the fun activities we did. The week flies by so fast, I forgot how much awesomeness is happening every day! Here are some of the things we did:
1. Make a sight word flower
Our students love to colour and this was a great activity to keep them engaged through our literacy centers. They had so much fun with this, and it was such a great way to reinforce sight word recognition and spelling. We have used the reusable work mats in the past, but this cut and paste activity is great for this time of the year when our students need to be engaged for long periods of time!
You can find this activity in my store:
2. Stamp a digraph
Another skill that our students have been working on is differentiating between the different digraph sounds. These stamping worksheets were a fun way to practice, and great for reinforcing these sounds!
There are three worksheets in this pack, you can get it in my store:
3. Avocado seed inquiry center
I brought an avocado for my lunch one day, and our students were fascinated when I cut it up. They saw the pit in the middle and had so many questions about it. We discussed the pit, and how it could be planted. I looked up online how to get it to grow, and we have been observing it ever since. This inquiry table gave our students the chance to take a closer look at what is happening with the pit, and record what they are seeing.
I love when our students’ questions lead to some great investigations. They are so much more interested and engaged when it is something they are wondering about. This pit has been checked in on every day, and our students notice whenever there is a slight change in it!
4. Feed the crocodile!
Last week we read a book that had a crocodile character in it and our students had some questions about them. We started a mini inquiry unit on crocodiles and alligators to answer some of their questions about them (mainly- what is the difference between a crocodile and an alligator). This fine motor station was set up, and we thought it would be great for them to work on their fine motor skills. What we didn’t anticipate was how much math would be involved! They have started counting how many bugs that they can transfer, and then comparing their numbers to see who had the most. I love it when they surprise me with their math skills!
We have some great things coming up this week, we have set up our incubator with chick eggs and our students are very excited about that! I will have lots to share about that in the next few weeks, so make sure you are following me here, on Facebook and on Instagram!
