Kindergarten Classroom Ideas: Material Storage

Set up your kindergarten classroom with various storage ideas that you can use to store your loose parts and other materials.

Storing and displaying the materials that your students will use can either detract or enhance the learning space. In this third post about the kindergarten classroom environment, I will give you some kindergarten classroom ideas that you can use to store your loose parts or other materials.

What do you like to use for storage in your classroom? Let me know in the comments!

Neutral Palette

Use wooden trays or baskets to store loose parts and other materials for your provocations or learning centers in your kindergarten classroom.

When I am looking for storage solution ideas for my classroom, I like to look for natural materials and a neutral palette. This way, the materials that I put inside are the center of attention. I want my students to be excited and inspired by what is in the basket or bowl.

Everything In Its Place

Store loose parts and other materials in natural storage containers to make your provocations appealing and to keep them organized.

When you make sure that all your materials have a storage space, your students will be able to put things away where they belong. This will keep things organized, and you won’t have to clean up as much.

My students were always able to put away all the materials, and because they were esthetically pleasing, they wanted to make sure that everything looked nice. This was great for loose parts, because it kept everything from getting mixed up!

These storage ideas are all great – but where do you get them? There are 3 main places that I find all the storage baskets and bowls that I have in my classroom:

1. Thrift Stores – these are great for finding interesting and inexpensive bowls and baskets. I have found so many interesting wood bowls!

2. Dollar Store – they have a variety of baskets, and they are always coming out with new designs. I opt for the natural colours.

3. Repurpose – I have found that I can repurpose bowls and baskets from other things like vegetable trays and mason jars. This is not only an inexpensive way to store materials, but it is great for the environment!
