We have been having so much fun these past few weeks in the classroom, we are getting excited about the chick eggs in our incubator (more to come on that, so make sure you are following me here!), we are getting caterpillars, and we are having a Pirate Day!
I love this time of the year, and here are a few things that we got up to this week:
1. Word family spin
Our students are doing such a great job stretching out and reading short words. We challenged them with this word family activity to spin and add letters or blends to the word family. Then the students have to decide if the word is real or nonsense.
This was such a great way to practice reading, and you can get it in my store if you would like to try it with your students:
2. Pineapple Number Mats
These cute pineapple number work mats are a great way to work on number sense. Students have to show the number in the ten frame, trace the number and decompose the number. Our students loved using the pineapple erasers to fill in the ten frame (they are from the dollar store), and they smell so good!
You can get these work mats in my store:
3. Finish the Story…
As we only have a a few weeks left of school, we have been pushing our students to do their best with their writing. They have come such a long way, and they are capable of doing some amazing writing. These story starter cards are really good for getting the students to write stories on their own.
I loved reading all their stories and they were so proud of their writing.
If you want to try these out with your students, you can find this activity in my store:
4. Alligator and Crocodile Sensory Bin
Our students have been asking some questions about crocodiles and alligators. We made up this sensory bin so students could make their own habitat for them to live in.
We used dried black beans and Lima beans, wood slices, rocks and green pasta as the base. Our students loved it!
