Count and Trace Fine Motor Activities for Kindergarten

Whenever I am teaching or reinforcing skills with my students, I always think to myself: “How can I add fine motor practice to this activity?” Fine motor skills greatly impact our students’ abilities: writing, self-help skills, coordination, and so much more!

That’s why I knew I had to figure out a way to work on counting (one-to-one correspondence and cardinality) and fine motor skills at the same time. These are two areas my students need a lot of practice with, so I came up with these count and trace cards.

Prepping is simple: laminate and cut out the cards. Students count the number of objects on each card, then trace the corresponding number with a whiteboard marker.

This way, they will be working on their number recognition and formation skills at the same time.

Different Sets

I’ve also included different sets to revisit the activity throughout the year. I like having variety, so my students don’t get bored, and they want to reengage with a center.
