Our new science focus this month is weather. We have started off by discussing clouds: the different types, what they look like and what they can tell us.
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett is a great introduction to this subject and the students find it hilarious. To accompany our reading, we made a sensory bin filled with “spaghetti” and sight word meatballs. The students love searching through it and finding the meatballs.
What you need:
* yellow yarn cut into different lengths
* red pompoms
* different play foods that you would find in the book (pie, corn, etc)
* meatballs: brown construction paper cut to look like meatballs with sight words written on them
* optional: plastic utensils so they can stir up the spaghetti
Next up was our writing prompt. We had the students write what they wanted to have rain from the sky and why. They loved to think about the different things they could get from the sky! We got this from: Kindergarten and First Grade Fever. It is a free download and our students loved it!
We are having a great time looking up in the sky and taking pictures of different clouds and discussing what type they are! Next we are reading Little Cloud by Eric Carle!
