Chinese New Year is on February 5th this year, and we have lots of families in our community that celebrate. We have a class party the day before so we can all be together to celebrate and I am always looking for new centers to do.
I came up with these crafts so that students can make a personal connection with the holiday, and we can have fun finding our Chinese Zodiac sign too. With this new activity pack, I’ve included 2 different versions of each of the crafts so you can decide which ones you want to do, and you can mix and match them: a Happy New Year version, and a version that has each of the Zodiac animals and their characteristics. Here is a look at what is included:
Posters and Headbands
I made a poster with each of the Zodiac signs and their corresponding year to make it easier to find each student’s sign. You can also use it to compare each of the animals. You can see an example of the headband with the Year of the Monkey on it (there is also a Happy New Year version included in this pack). After students cut out the headband, you can staple some strips of construction paper to the sides to fit their heads.
Necklace Medallion
These printables are perfect for making necklaces with your students. I will add red and yellow beads to the necklaces, and they will be great for celebrating the Year of the Pig!
Bookmarks
These simple bookmarks are a perfect little gift to send home with students that they can use with their favorite books. Again, these come with each of the 12 animal zodiacs, and there is also a Happy New Year version!
