I don’t know about you, but my students love play dough! So I created a fun space-themed 2D shapes kindergarten activity that my class LOVED!
This is such an easy activity to set up. All I did was print and laminate the cards, then add some play dough.
Play Dough

As you can see in the pictures, I tried to make galaxy or space play dough for my students. I used a simple no-cook recipe and added black gel food colouring to give it a grey colour. I also put some fine iridescent glitter that could be seen in person but didn’t show up as well on camera.
Once the play dough was made, I added some wood stars that students could use while making shapes.
2D Shapes Kindergarten
Before using this play dough activity, I start off by teaching students about 2D shapes. I introduce the name of the shapes, vertices and edges.
Once I’ve done a lesson about them, I like to set up math centers or provocations to extend their understanding and learning. I usually sit with my students during that time to do small groups, extend their learning or clear up any misconceptions they might have.
