# Take a Look Back #73- pompom addition, ABC Countdown, roll & rhyme, and more!

We have been trying hard to make sure our literacy and math centers are still engaging as we approach the end of the school year. Here are a few activities that our students have found engaging over the past week.

Our students practiced their adding skills with this math provocation. They rolled two dice, added that number of pompoms to the ice cube tray using tweezers, then count how many they have altogether.

This center was great for reinforcing counting skills, adding and fine motor muscles.

## Roll & Rhyme

One of the skills that we need to work on the most as the end of the year approaches is our rhyming skills. I came up with this new literacy center so that we could come up with our own rhymes!

For this activity, I used the pocket dice cards. Students rolled the die, then came up with a rhyming sentence using that word (‘A fox in the box’), then they illustrate their sentence in the box. This was great for practicing their creative writing skills, and learning to rhyme.

This activity is available in my store, and comes with a variety of dice and activity pages:

## Fill the Shape

We were given a box of pentominoes and I have been trying to figure out what we can do with them. Our students loved this Fill the Shape activity, and they tried out the different versions. I used Painter’s Tape to make cleanup easier, and it stayed on for the whole time that we did the activity.

This was a great challenge for our students, and they loved that it was like a ‘video game’.

## ABC Countdown Book

To add some fun to the end of the school year, we are going to try doing an ABC Countdown. Everyday of the countdown, we are going to have activities for each letter of the alphabet. For example, on the first day we are doing ‘A’ and bringing stuffed Animals to school.

Each day, we are going to fill a page of our book, so that we have a great keepsake at the end. I’m really excited about this, and I think it’s going to make our last month of school fly by!

If you would like to see a calendar of the activities that we are doing, there is a free download of it in my Resource Library.

If you would like a copy of this activity book, it is available in my store:
