Hanukkah in the classroom

We celebrated Hanukkah in our classroom last week. We had some great conversations about the holiday and some traditions surrounding it. We played with dreidels and learned about what each symbol means, then each students had a chance to decorate their own dreidel cutout. I didn’t get a picture of one, but they turned out great.

Next we spoke up menorahs. The students had some great questions, and were interested in learning more about them. We made some classroom menorahs by painting toilet paper tubes and adding a “flame” to it. They turned out great.

I was glad we were able to have insightful and meaningful conversations about Hanukkah,  especially with Christmas coming up. I was worried they would be too excited about Santa!
