Promote collaboration and idea-sharing with Google Jamboard in your kindergarten classroom. This digital whiteboard makes it so easy for students and you!

With the move over to distance learning this past year, I have been playing around with different online platforms. I love using Boom Cards with my students, and I have recently discovered how easy Google Jamboard is to use as well.

I filmed a video explaining how you can use Jamboard, with some ideas and tips to make it work for you and your students:

What is Google Jamboard?

Part of the Google Workspace line of products (like Slides, Docs, Sheets, etc.), Jamboard is a digital whiteboard. It allows you to quickly make slides and share them with other educators or with your students.

I love the simplicity of the whiteboard- there are not a lot of options, just the few that you need to collaborate and create. This makes it so much easier for students to use than something like Google Slides that have a lot of different options and things for students to click on.

The whiteboards save to your Google Drive so that you can revisit them later or share them with others. This is great for creating charts, writing down ideas, making graphs and so much more. Since it is so easy to start one up, you can create them whenever you need to.

Google Jamboard in Kindergarten

Like with any new tool in your classroom, you will need to teach your students how to use Jamboard before they are able to start using it on their own. I suggest sharing your screen and showing them the different options and what they do, then allowing them some time to play with it. It might take them a few tries to be able to use it properly, but I always reinforce expectations and rules before we use a piece of technology.

If you want to give Jamboard a try, I have created a Story Elements template that you can download. You can add students ideas to the slide, or have students add their own answers using sticky notes. This can also be an assignment that you give students after reading a book.

That’s one of the great things about using Jamboard- there are so many different ways that you can use it depending on the task: whole group, small group or independent work can all be done through the platform!
