To teach sight words to our kindergarten students, we try to use as many ways as possible to get them practicing. We trace, write, build, make, and anything else we can think of! Those little hands have to keep busy, and they learn best when they have hands-on centers that they can interact with. I try to keep this in mind when I am creating new activities for our kindergarten class, and I think that Sight Word Laundry is great for this.
Our students loved using the clothespins to string up the sight words, and they did a great job making each of the sight words. It is not only a great literacy center, but it is also great for fine motor practice.
How many sight words do your kindergarten students learn in kindergarten? We do one a week!
