Take a Look Back #60- penguin art, holiday sensory bin, gingerbread man class book and more!

Penguin art idea for kindergarten pointillism for winter craft. Holiday I-Spy easy sensory bin for Christmas. gingerbread writing prompt and class book, snowman gift bag

We are one day away from winter break, and I didn’t think I was going to make it for a moment. I’m am looking forward to having two weeks off to relax and hit the reset button.

Here are few activities from our past week in kindergarten:

Penguin Art

We did a winter art rotation with our kindergarten classes. Each of our 4 classes had a different art activity, and this penguin art was the craft we did in our class. I did it step by step: I had a cut out of the penguin’s body and students placed it on the black construction paper, the students used a q-tip dipped in white paint to dot around the cutout to make the snowflakes. Then, they took off the body cut-out and discarded it. Next, they glued the different features to the penguin: stomach, beak, eyes and bow-tie. They turned out so cute, and each one was so unique. Love it!

Christmas Sensory Bin

Christmas I-Spy sensory bin idea for kindergarten. Practice literacy and writing skills with this simple and fun sensory bin.

We needed an easy sensory bin for the last week of school, so we came up with this super simple one: place different holiday objects in your sensory bin (we used green and red rice as a base), and have students pick out items and record them. So simple, and takes no time to prep!

Gingerbread Man Class Book

One of our students’ favourite writing activities is to make class books. I realized that our class needed to work on using describing words in their writing, so this was the perfect writing prompt!

Students drew a picture of a gingerbread man, then described it. They love taking this book out to read, so I think it was a success!

If you would like to make a class book with your students, this writing prompt and many more are included in this pack:

Snowman Gift Bag

Snowman gift bag for christmas presents. Decorate these cute bags to send home student gifts

We finished making all our gifts for families, and we put them in these cute bags for students to take home. It’s a white craft bag (available at the dollar store) that students decorated with snowman pieces. They turned out so cute, and because our students decorated them, they are all unique!

What are your plans for winter break?
