We re-vamped our writing center this year to try something new, and I am so excited about how it came together. I really wanted to have an interactive word wall, and have all the writing tools accessible to our students. This is how it looks so far this year, it might change as the needs of our students change throughout the school year.
Interactive Word Wall
I stuck the letter headers to the back of our rolling shelf, then added the sight words underneath them (I typed up our sight word list, printed and laminated them). They are stuck with Velcro dots, so students can take a word back to the table with them.
This is so great for our students, and they are starting to become independent and taking the words that they need when writing. We were doing our monthly writing for their memory journals when I took these pictures.
Our students can use the different writing tools on the shelf. There are markers, pencils, pencil crayons. They know where to put things back once they have used them, and can just grab what they need. Our colour posters are one of the tools they use the most when writing. They use it during rainbow writing activities, or any time they need colour words. It comes in my Color Around the Room pack:
There are certain words that students are always asking me how to spell. I started writing them in this book so that they can use it as a dictionary when they are writing. It is left on the shelf and they can take it whenever they need it.
I think that this area of our classroom will continue to change, and I will update you of any items that I add.
Are there any other areas of the classroom that you would like to take a closer look at?
