Take a Look Back #50- pencil stool DIY, Alphabet hunt, new coding book and more!

New coding book, alphabet write-the-room activity for letter recognition, time math centers for kindergarten and DIY pencil stool for the classroom.

This week has been a rainy and humid one in my part of the world. I’ve wanted to curl up on the couch, watch movies and knit all week! I did do some of that, but I also got a cute DIY project done, found a new book and continued to work on some new resources to add to my store.

Alphabet Hunt

alphabet letter hunt activity that can be used as a literacy center or write-the-room activity. Great kindergarten center to reinforce letter recognition and letter formation.

These write-the-room sheets are a great way to work on letter recognition. They can also be used with books to add a fun literacy component. We had students look through the books to find words that began with the letter P. Once they found a word, they would record it. Some of our students challenged themselves to find even more words and record it on the back of the paper. So much fun, and they get to work on a variety of skills.

You can get this activity in my store:

Coding Book

Great kindergarten class book. Teach coding to students and explain what coding is, and how to use it in the classroom.

I had seen this book posted about a few times this summer, and I really wanted to get it for our classroom library. Someone had mentioned that they got their copy at Winners, so the next time I was there I had a look and luckily I found it! They had a great collection of books at the store, and I had to control myself to get just this one. I still have a lot of Scholastic money to use, so I think I am going to take a look at what I can get for the new school year.

Pencil Stool

DIY pencil stool for the classroom. Paint your own stool to display in your classroom. So cute and easy to make

I saw this awesome DIY project from Happy Days in First Grade on Instagram, and she even had a tutorial on how to make your own: 6 Steps to Make Your Own Pencil Stool. I thought it was so cute, so I knew I had to make my own. I have a couple of old stools that we no longer use in our basement, so all I had to do was buy a few of bottles of paint. In all, this project cost me less than $10 and I love how it turned out!

Time Activities

Teaching time in kindergarten with hands-on, fun centers and activities. Perfect for math centers to teach time to the hour and half-hour.

Teaching time in kindergarten can be a tricky. I made some fun activities with this in mind and recently shared them in this blog post. Head over there to get some ideas on how you can teach time to your students!
