One of the favourite literacy activities this year for our students was making class books. They loved taking part in the whole process- they got to see themselves as authors and illustrators, as well as readers. The books that they make are a favourite in our classroom library, and our students are always reading them.
We have made a few class books this school year, but since they were such a hit with our class, I decided to make a year-long pack of them. They cover different events (e.g. 100th day of school) and holidays (e.g. Valentine’s Day), as well as generic writing prompts. I hope that our students continue to enjoy making them, and that they continue to be excited to read them!
Each of the writing prompts comes with a cover in colour and B&W to make putting together easy! We make books out of them, but you could choose to just use the writing prompts for your guided writing center. Each prompt comes with a writing page with a space to add a picture, and just a plain writing paper for extra room to write.
The When We Grow Up book is perfect for the end of the year, and could even be added to their memory books. I am looking forward to doing this one, I can’t wait to read their answers!
We have been learning about time in math these past few weeks, and this book was perfect for reinforcing writing out the time. Each student got to write about their favourite time of the day, and then explain why.
Each of our students had a great answer, and this book has already been read quite a few times since being added to our library.
