It is getting to the time of the school year when we need more challenging centers for our students. Most of them know all the letters and sounds, so we are moving on to stretching out and writing simple words. I wanted to create something fun, that students would be excited to do, but that I could differentiate for our students. This new product is perfect for keeping students engaged, practicing their reading skills and having fun all at the same time!
This product has a few different worksheets that you can use depending on the level of your students, and what you want them to work on. This pick and draw sheet (there is a page included with only 4 spaces for pictures too) is great for getting students to stretch out new words. You can use it as assessment, or for them to practice. Students pick a word, read it and then must draw a picture of it.
Do you need a bit more of a challenge? You can use the CCVC or CVCC word cards and the writing paper. I printed them on different colored paper to help me keep them organized. This will give students the chance to write a sentence using the word they picked, and then illustrate it. Great for practicing writing conventions as well as sounding out new words.
All of the word cards (40 CVC and 40 CCVC/CVCC words), writing sheets and blank templates are available in one easy download:
